THE DEMOCRACY is a modern jazz quintet that operates in a way that allows each musician to be an active a part of the creative direction of the ensemble. All five players contribute to the original works performed an all have a say of how each night will go... this band is proof that the spirit of Democracy is alive and well.

Adam Bartczak is the chairman of sorts of the Democracy and is in demand as a performer, composer, arranger, and clinician throughout the country. A Colorado native, he earned a BM from the University of Colorado at Boulder before joining Denver-based hip-hop/jazz collective Yo, Flaco! with whom he recorded three albums and toured extensively. He moved east to attend the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he studied with Bob Brookmeyer, earned a MM in Jazz Composition. Recent projects have included presentations of works at the Jazz Education Network Conference, and The Soul of Jewish Music, which premiered in Los Angeles and featured iconic violinist Itzhak Perlman. Performances of his arrangements for jazz orchestra have featured artists such as Donny McCaslin, Jeff Coffin, Robin Eubanks, Brian Lynch, Billy Pierce, and Geoffrey Keezer. As a performer, he has shared the stage with Karl Denson, Del the Funky Homosapien, Big Gigantic, Ron Miles, and Ziggy Marley. Currently, he performs and teaches in Colorado and is an adjunct faculty member at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. He also taught at the University of Northern Colorado, where he recently earned a Doctorate in Jazz Studies with a secondary emphasis in Classical Composition.
